How do I know which Aesop's Fables to get? Which one's are "dumbed down" are which aren't. I'm looking on paperbackswap and just looking at the cover I have no clue which one to get. There is a "Comlete and Unabridged Classic", 2 different "Dover Classic", a "Children's Classic", and several that just say Aesop's Fables. They are published anywhere from 1963-2003 and some that don't say.

Ambleside Online recommends the one by Milo Winter - I've been using it (from the library) and it seems very good and complete...
The Complete and Unabridged Classic is probably really good....

We also have the Milo Winter version; it has close to 150 of the fables and has the most wonderful artful illustrations.

My children still read through it at ages 9.

Can't help you decide, but the Aesop version by Ann McGovern may be mine! I requested it, then realized I had enough fables already for the year, so I relisted it. I didn't have a problem with the writing, though.

I have this one that I got from Amazon. It has a CD which my son loves. He is extremely auditory. And it is illustrated by Milo Winter.
