   and I am at a loss.  He's 12.  It's his right arm and he is right handed, of course.  So for 5 weeks he can't do copywork, spelling Wisdom, most of the Language Lessons for Elementary Child2.... So he does math and whatever readings we do together--history, geography, poetry, parables from nature, book of virtues, mathematicians are people too, missionaries and the millers...Ok, typing it out made me really see what we're covering in a week!   

   For some reason, I'm just feeling like he doesn't have much to do.  I guess we need to make a library trip and load him up on books for independent reading...

   First off I wish your son a speedy and uneventful recovery, how frustrating for him to have his main hand out of action.  It sounds like you are doing plenty, and oral narrations work great as well.  Good luck, he will do fine, hopefully back to normal in a jiffy.  Blessings, Linda

   The time will fly by! I wish your son a speedy recovery:) Can you get him a pair of binoculars and have him do some bird watching with a checklist and a digital camera? When my son broke his leg a few years back he was 12 and we almost lost the whole year due to drug reactions, complications, etc but I remember he liked watching and compiling. Not sure if it would work for any other subjects. We also did some books on tape(CD) from the library and narrated from them.

   I'm so sorry to hear that! Computer is a good idea, and more library books is also excellent.

   I think you'll be surprised, some of the best learning can happen as a result of something like this.  Some extra time for him to have conversations and maybe help his siblings?   More free time to heal can result in sharpening observation skills!
