Thank you for your opinions ladies! I would be using them with a 10th and an 8th grader. I got a great deal on them ($2 each).

We have read Sweet Land of Liberty and The Boys of '76. For us, they were a great addition to our early American history studies and we quite enjoyed them. I agree that they are definitely for older students.

I've used this book with another program and it is definitely for higer grades. I liked it, but my kids were dialectic level and higher who were reading it. It does have some dry spots.

The Andreolas at Christianbook give wonderful reviews for the Coffin's books. http://www.christianbook.com/charles-coffin-volume-history-book-pack/charles-coffin/pd/674012?event=SP99143|1470482|99143|1470482|99143

I will be getting them when mine are older HOwever, it seems they are for the middle grades and up, so not for elementary spines.

They are reprints of history "texts" from the mid-1800's, that were written more in story form, thorough, before the Progressives took over our Country's history transformation in the early 20th Cen.; so "yeah" for you that you have them!

Again, as for a spine, I think it just depends on your children's ages. Hopefully, someone else will chime in, too.

I recently picked up The Story of Liberty and Sweet Land of Liberty by Charles Coffin. I am considering using them for a history spine next year. I know many of you have extensive libraries so I thought you could give me some opinions. Have any of you used them? Did you like them? Why or why not? Thanks for your time.
